12v auto cut off battery charger - Electronic Project

Introduction:

Battery charger circuit diagram with auto cut-off. A battery charger is a device that recharges a depleted electrolyte by using direct current flow. After it has replenished all the electrolytes, the battery’s current flow supply should come to a halt. As a result, a battery’s performance is determined by the charging of the process. Nowadays we have become more reliant on batteries, as we require batteries for cell phones, emergency lights, car batteries, UPS batteries, and other fundamental electronic circuit diagrams.

They make gadgets more portable and making them more accessible to users. Here we design a battery charger circuit by implementing an adjustable voltage regulator LM317 with an auto cut-off feature. This circuit diagram will give adjustable DC supply output and charge battery ranges from 6 volts to 12 Volts. The LM317 is a monolithic integrated IC, it is a positive of the adjustable voltage regulator that comes in three different packages. It can deliver 1.5A of load current flow, and the output voltage could be adjusted from 1.2 to 37 V.

Working Principle of 12v Battery Charger Circuit :

The first circuit diagram is an automatic 12V battery charger with an auto cut-off feature that can recharge car and dry batteries used in alarm systems. The circuit diagram is powered by a transformer with a secondary voltage of 14-15V and a current flow of 3A minimum. A trimmer is adjusted to achieve an output of the voltage of 14.4V without load. The maximum distributable current flow is 3A, so batteries with a capacity higher than 36Ah should not be charged.

In conclusion, these Simple 12V Battery Charger circuit diagrams with Auto Cut-off are an excellent choice for anyone who needs a reliable and efficient battery charger. The circuit diagrams are easy to build and come with clear instructions and a parts list, so you can start building right away. So, go ahead and try them out for yourself, and see how they could make your life easier or your projects more efficient!

This 12-battery charger circuit diagram provides an Automatic cut-off facility when the battery gets fully charged. Before the use of this circuit diagram, you need to adjust the Cut off-voltage range for the auto cut. This adjustment is done by the moving 10k preset and for testing of output of the voltage auto cut range, a multimeter is connected to the output terminals that go to the battery. This voltage range could be set by using any 13v or 14v DC supply that connects the terminals that go to the battery. Move the preset till the green LED is ON. Once the auto-cut voltage is set, the circuit diagram is ready to use.

One 555 timer IC is used for detecting the voltage level or the Relay and is used to disconnect the AC input. 7808 voltage regulator is used for constant supply to the operation of the circuit diagram to cut at a required fixed voltage. This 12v battery charger Automatically cuts the circuit diagram after a full charge and provides 6 Ampere high current flow and this can be used for a big-size Lead-acid Battery up to 100 AH. If you want to more high current flow replace the transformer with 10A and use a 10A10 Diode. You could use a readymade 12v 10 A Bridge Rectifier which is available in the market.

One terminal of the Input AC power supply to the Transformer is connected through a 12 V Relay. When the Battery needs to be charged then the Red LED glows, When the Charge level goes to about 12v and 13v the Red LED will turn off, and the Green LED will Glow. The input Power supply of the Transformer of the charger is also Disconnected by the Relay.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cut-off voltage for a 12V battery?

Usually, the low voltage cut-off (LVC) for a 12V of the battery is 10.5V. It means the battery will stop running the load that it comes down to 10.5 V. This LVC can be set even higher, such as 11V, to improve the battery's life and reduce all chances of deep discharge.

What is the voltage of a 12V battery after charging?

12.6V volts and above - Your battery is healthy or fully charged. No further action is required. 12.5v - Your battery is at a healthy state of charge, but we recommend re-checking it within a few days to ensure the voltage hasn't dropped any further.

What does 12V battery voltage mean?

12V tells us that the battery supplies 12 volts of the under a nominal load. The same principle holds for a 24V battery of the bank in that it provides 24 volts. As we discussed before, most car or RV batteries are 12V.

How many volts is a fully charged 12V?

The truth is, that most 12-volt batteries need to measure at least about 12.6 volts before they are considered fully charged. That is because each of the six cells in a 12-volt battery would measure at least about 2.1 volts when fully charged. Multiply that number by six cells or you arrive at 12.6 volts.

What is the cut-off with an example?

1 to interrupt someone or stop them from speaking My explanation was cut off by loud of the protests. [on the often passive] to stop the supply of something to someone Our water supply has been cut off. They were cut off for not paying their phone bill.
